Ethical Dilemma #2 - To Tell or Not To Tell

If you knew a guy* was casually cheating on his girlfriend of 5 years, would you tell the girlfriend?

Fortunately, I wasn't faced with this as I only found out this guy cheated after I met and spoke with the girl.

If I were her, I'd want to know so I could move on and find someone better. However, I don't think I'd be able to tell her as I barely know both of them.

Flirt Cosmetics Sale Alert

Local Target stores are discontinuing Flirt Cosmetics, an American makeup line that produces budget equivalents to MAC professional products, as well as the American Beauty line - a low-end alternative to Estee Lauder.

Flirt's range of colour cosmetics receives rave reviews over at Makeup Alley so I thought it would be worth checking out with the 50% off and additional buy one get one free promotion. I'm glad I did!

I left with four eyeshadows (original RRP $20 each), two blushes (RRP $24 a piece), a lipstick (RRP $20), three lipglosses (RRP $20), two luminisers (RRP $30) and two eyeliners (RRP $20). So it was $308 worth of stuff for less than $80. Did I need $80 worth of makeup? Probably not, but the savings were top-notch. And after this haul I probably never need to buy makeup ever again!

The eyeshadows, lipsticks and eyeliners are the standouts, in my opinion. The texture of the eyeshadows are soft and they are ultra pigmented - just like MAC's! I hear they are made in the same factory. The lipstick I got - #20 Cool, which is a super fun Barbie pink - is moisturising and long-lasting. And the eyeliners are soft-textured with great colour payoff!

Eyeshadows clockwise from top left: Vibrant Violet (vibrant mid blue-toned purple), Candy Hearts (pearlised pastel grey lilac), Glamourazzi (mid-tone purple with copper reflects), Bo Peep (matte cream with sparkles).

Top: American Beauty All-Over Glow in Pink Glow, Middle L-R: Flirt Lipgloss in Mighty Aphrodite, Flirt Lipstick in Cool, Bottom: 2x American Beauty Fabulous Feel Liquid Lipcolor in Pink Pearl.

Flirt Eyeliner Swatches L-R: Pool Party (pale blue), Sugar Pie (white).

If you're in need of some new makeup then I definitely suggest you check the range out. Just don't overdo it with the frenzied basket filling (...like me).

It's only stocked at selected Targets unfortunately, and for some reason not all are running the promotion! I can vouch that 50% off + BOGOF is definitely at Parramatta and Merrylands in Sydney, however. Bondi and Burwood are only doing 50% off. Happy shopping!

Saving Money in Times of Unemployment

Today I unitentionally discovered a great way of saving money. I went to do the Bondi-Coogee walk with a friend and since it's a 12km walk, I didn't want to carry much, so instead of taking my wallet, I just took $20, figuring that would be enough for food.

What I didn't account for was that it would get chilly in the afternoon. After we'd done the walk and drank our boost juices, I was very cold. So I thought, not a problem, I'll just buy a jacket. Right? Wrong. I didn't have enough money to buy both the jacket and eat dinner, so being practical as ever, I chose to eat dinner.

And there you go, money saved on a jacket because not only did I not bring enough cash, I also foolishly left my credit card and bank card at home in my wallet. I shouldn't say foolishly because it worked out rather well in the end - in the sense that I saved money. Not in the sense that I had to remain cold...

However what I've learned from this experience is to either take more money or take my bankcard (or hey, even a jacket...), but perhaps others will learn from my experience and see it as a good way of saving money! Just don't take a lot of money to begin with! And leave those cards at home!

Is My Baby Normal?

That is a question I'm sure a lot of parents ask.

It usually starts with "Is my baby putting on enough weight?", and can then be followed by many others such as "Why is my baby so big?", "Why does my baby still not sleep through the night?" and a favourite "Why is my baby crying now?!"

Unfortunately I cannot answer all of them and how many times have we heard, "All babies are different" anyway?

However, I have found a website that calms me down: http://www.medcalc.com/growth. I cannot guarantee it will calm you down but it's worth a look. Maybe keeping busy with all the charts can take your mind off worrying about whatever your baby is or isn't doing.

An Ethical Dilemma

Hello readers,

I have a dilemma for you (inspired by Lost)...if you could go back in time and kill Hitler as a young child, would you? Knowing that you could save all those innocent people just by killing one innocent boy?

Maybe I see things too much in black and white but I think I'd do it. Sure he's innocent at the time, but you know that he'll go on to commit so many horrible deeds...I don't really think there would be a chance to 'reform' him...

What are your thoughts ?

Baby Vaccinations

Today I took Caitlyn to the doctor for her 4 months vaccinations.

I never thought much about vaccinations, other than they have to be done.

A while ago, I was talking to a few of Dan's relatives and vaccinations were brought to me in a very controversial light. I never realised all the fuss surrounding them.

As soon as I got home, I did what any other modern parent would do. I googled.

I found that there were some studies that apparently showed horrible side effects. However, these studies were apparenly not conclusive. After reading many articles, I have come to realise that the possible effects of vaccinations do not even closely outweigh the benefits of being immunised against the diseases.

In stark contrast to previous post... my birthday e-card (NSFW!)

Hi girls. I've got some serious makeup road testing to do, but in the spirit of the birthday season I thought I'd share with you one of the more memorable/disturbing e-cards I received this year.

The Vices of an Unemployed Person - #1 - Television

We started out creating this blog to entertain ourselves while unemployed. And maybe help other people in the same position as us. But a cursory search on Seek shows that there's not much out there right now. So what is an unemployed person to do when they can't find a suitable job to apply to?

Watch television of course. As the previous entry suggests, I like to watch, wait and write about it.

This isn't restricted to television of course (stay tuned for the upcoming date entry - because unemployed people can also entertain themselves by going out on dates, usually bad ones), but I will start with my thoughts on the TV shows I've been watching lately, because I suspect other unemployed people watch televison too. Be warned, spoilers ahead!

How I Met Your Mother (4x18 - "Old King Clancy")

I love this show. I love Neil Patrick Harris. But mainly I love the group dynamic. When you take away the continuous drinking, it could be anybody's group of friends. Also for a sitcom, they have amazing continuity, slap bet anyone?

In the latest episode, Ted discovers that Marshall & Barney have been lying to him about the fact he lost his job at their firm a few month ago. Meanwhile the rest of the gang try to figure out which celebrity took Robin back to their place, what this celebrity collected, and which sex act he wanted to do. The adult version of Cluedo I would say.

Some of the highlights from this episode for me were:

* Marshall reading a list of fish names. I don't think anyone but Jason Segel could make this funny (okay maybe Neil Patrick Harris), but it was funny. Maybe because Marshall honestly thought he was hilarious, or maybe the way he read each name with such conviction: 'Bass...this guy knows what I'm talking about'. It made me laugh.

* The fact that there really is a Canadian sex acts website. And that Barney has it bookmarked.

* Marhsall believing Barney's story about Dandelion. Lol. My favourite thing about Marshall's character is that innocence!

Gossip Girl (2x19: "The Grandfather")

I think this show has its ups and downs. The reason I continue to watch every episode is to see what will happen with Chuck and Blair. So you can imagine my horror at the final scene of 'The Grandfather' - Blair and Nate?? Again?? That is a *terrible* idea. And Nate is always portrayed as the 'nice' guy, when actually he slept with Serena while he was with Blair, and now it looks like he'll hook up with Blair while he's with Vanessa...

I can't help but wish they'd stop throwing obstacles in the path of Blair & Chuck getting together. Although I guess it wouldn't be nearly as interesting if they were a Rufus-Lily type couple.  But I mean really, Nate?? Hasn't the Blair-Nate relationship been done to death?

I look forward to Chuck & Vanessa's revenge next week.

The March Girls

Amanda - Pink Heels. Red Dress. But never together.

Zoe - Stop holding my baby.

The First March Girl -
Watching, waiting and writing about it.

United by unemployment.
But not defined by it.

Unemployed Wednesday

What do you get when three unemployed 20-somethings are sitting around with nothing to do?

This blog.
